Recent Trends in Logo Design
What are recent trends in logo design Logo designs today are definitely different from what they were last year and drastically different from a decade ago. What has been different in logo design used today compared from years ago. Current design trends points to several different principles and techniques used to create a logo today. However logos today may have one drawback, legibility. Some logos go too far for their own good. The designs can be so intricate that the end user may be more confused than interested in your product and logo.

One of the most notable trends in logo design is the use of three dimensional shapes in a logo. These design trends are popular because the logo has a sense of depth to them compared to two dimensional logos. Logo’s that have the use of three dimensions definitely stand out and they do not look like it was done with the use of any clip art. These types of logos are truly unique since each shape is different unlike the use of only typography. These types of logos may have one drawback. They may not reproduce well on print type media. There may be a lot of color and shading etc. that may not reproduce well when copied.

Way back when Nike introduced the swoosh in their logo, the trend for using swooshes has not diminished. Many companies adopt this type of logo as it appeals to many companies. Swoosh’s look elegant and are very stylized to give the sensation of something moving. It gives the logo a sense of dynamic movement in a static image. These design concepts are very popular and are the “in” thing right now. The swoosh may have given way to the “wave”. The “wave” does give the logo the sense of speed, movement, and a quickness about the logo. We shall see if this trend lasts.
Another design trend that is popular is incorporating the use of transparency into a logo. The use of transparency, if done well gives the sense of elegancy. The use of transparency gives the designer the opportunity to use different design elements into layers to give the viewer a more creative image. It almost gives the illusion of depth and three dimensions when it is a two dimensional image.
Using the concepts above, another trend that is on the rise is for Web 2.0 type logos. Logos that have a modern and trendy look to them. These logos have bright colors, 3D shapes, cool icons, shiny surfaces, reflections and shadows. If done right these logos catch the eye and draws in the view to ask what is this company and what do they do. This trend into designing logos that have a modern, trendy, cool and futuristic look to them is here and will probably be here for a while.
