What makes a good logo? There are several factors in determining the effectiveness of a good logo. First the logo must make an impact. It needs to be appealing to the eye when people see it. This may be the first impression of a customers in seeing your logo so a good logo should grab the attention of the consumer. Having the attention of a consumer is the first step in getting their business.
One thing that is overlooked in designing a good logo is that the logo must copy well. In business, not everything is in color, so therefore when copies are made of letterhead or business cards, the logo should copy well. If there are very intricate designs aspects of a logo, it may not copy well and look old when copied. Therefore a good logo must look great in black and white as well as color. Generally if good logo is just effective in black and white then adding color will only enhance the look of the logo.
Another aspect of good logo’s is the branding ability of the logo. Does the logo brand well in terms of identifying what the company does or what it stands for. Does it represent the company’s business. Professional looking logo’s may be better suited than something that looks humorous unless humor is what is desired. Also, the logo must be memorable to the individual. Therefore the logo should be simple so that the consumer can recall what the name of the company was. When a professional logo is designed, the logo should last the test of time.
