Typically a text based hyperlink is blue in color and underlined. This helps the website visitor to locate links quickly and hopefully click on the link to encourage an action. The following are the two most important items of a link, and these are defined with HTML.
Link Destination
The link destination is web page or url that the link is pointing to. This is very useful for both website vititors and as a way to increase search engine rankings by defining and categorizing the content of your website. The link url is always accompanied by the link text.
Link Text
The link text is text based phrase that should always be a call to action. Meaning that each link should encourage a web visitor to do something, or make some action. Like a "Buy This Car Now" text link. When you see a text link it should always be appropriately titled to match with the destination content. If you click on a "Buy This Car Now" link, you should have the link url be a web page where the item can be purchased. In turn, if you want to provide information about the car for sale, you may want to have a link text that reads, "Toyota Prius Specifications". This way the user will know before they click onto the link what the landing page is about.
