Elements of Business Card Design

Business cards today are the most common way to pass along information from one individual to another.  It is usually the first tool for a business to extend information about the company to any prospective customer or client.

Printing Services

Printing technologies today allow companies to design and create great looking business cards with full color at reasonable prices.  Gone are the days of having a plain white business card with black lettering on one side.  Many business cards now have full color on both sides with great looking logos.  However be careful about the amount of color that you use, too much may make the card look like a disaster.  You should limit the amount of color to about 2 or 3 colors.  Also, don’t make the mistake of printing your business card on flimsy card stock.  Use a heavy weight card stock so that the card feels sturdy and doesn’t have the cookie cutter look to it.  Also stick to the common size of 3.5 inches by 2 inches.  Any larger or smaller makes it difficult to handle.

The problem with business cards is that some people may put in too much information.  The business card should only list the most important information about the company.   However many companies will make the mistake of cramming as much information as possible to make the card very busy looking and too difficult to read.  Just the basic information such as name, company name, website and phone number is most often all that you need.

Desigin the best business card for your company

A business card should look pleasant when you view it.  The font should be something that is easy to read.  There is absolutely no need to print a business card in a font that’s difficult to read just because the font looks pretty.  Also, don’t have the font too small.  Many people will not want to have to squint to read a business card.  Just have the right amount of text in the card too.  You only have a fixed amount of card real estate and using too much will make the card look cluttered.  If you happen to use a logo on the card, be sure to compliment the logo to the rest of the card.  Use typography to your advantage.

Lastly, all the information above is great info about your future business card.  The biggest and most common mistake is that you do all this yourself.  It is vitally important that you try to use a professional to design a logo and business card.  Anything that’s done by an amateur will look so.  This is something that you do not want to express to your customer.  The business card may be the only thing that may bring you their business so make a great first impression.
